Description

Mapsland is a mid-19th century small country house, first shown on the 1842 Tithe Map. It is believed to have been built by one of the Edward-Hill brothers, who also constructed Ants Hill and Parson's Lodge, with all these houses sharing a similar design, including Fern Hill. The building features a two-storey rendered front with plinths, forming a double-pile structure, and has a later extension on the east end. It is topped with slate roofs, modern brick chimney stacks, and wide eaves.

The main front, which has four windows, faces south and has been extended to the east. It includes 12-pane sash windows on the first floor and 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor, flanking a former central half-glazed door, with the porch now removed. A modern lean-to kitchen extension wraps around the southeast corner, and there is another lean-to on the rear range. The main entrance has been relocated to the north side, featuring offset similar sash windows, with additional windows on the left part of the west side beside a modern door.

A rubble wall and adjoining hipped roof stables line the road, with drive entries to the southwest and southeast.

Inside, the house retains a staircase with moulded tread ends, panelled doors, classical cornices, and arched openings. There are ceiling hooks in the former kitchen and a dresser from Lamphey Palace in the modern kitchen. Oval window shutter fastenings have been copied from Castle House.
