Description
The viaduct at Morlais Junction East is a monumental structure approximately 200 meters long and rising over 20 meters above the surface of the River Loughor. It is constructed from red engineering brick in English bond and features 11 semi-circular arches, each spanning about 30 meters. The five central arches have projecting breakwaters at the piers, which are slightly sloped to the impost level and include a projecting banded course that is five bricks high, located below the springing of the arches. The arches themselves are seven bricks deep and topped with a moulded brick course that is roll-shaped. The wall below the parapet is corbelled out in four courses, and the parapet has flat stone coping with embrasures and iron safety rails at every second arch.
