Description

The Old Printing House is a house and shop that forms part of an informal terrace. It features painted roughcast walls and a slate close-eaved roof, with a rendered stack at the right end that is attached to the gable and stack of No 19 Market Square. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with 12-pane sash windows on the upper floor and the left side of the ground floor. The right side of the ground floor has a 19th-century shop window that slightly projects, complete with a cornice and 20th-century glazing consisting of four long lights, which replaced smaller panes.

The entrance features a central six-panel door, which has two glazed panels and two fielded panels, set within a panelled reveal. The timber doorcase is adorned with chamfered pilasters and a plain frieze that includes a panel and a thin cornice. The building has painted stone sills and flagstones at the entry. Under the eaves, there is a large lettered panel that reads "PRINTING OFFICE" in good 19th-century wooden capital letters. Additionally, four 20th-century skylights have been added to the roof.

Inside, the front range contains three large rough-hewn oak beams, one of which is deep-chamfered, while another features iron bolts at a stepped joint. An exposed stone fireplace is located to the right. In the rear room, there is a smaller beam, a fireplace against the back wall, panelled shutters for a large 12-pane hornless sash window, and panelled double part-glazed doors, both situated on the east wall.
