Description
The Church of St Sadwrnen is a Grade II listed building designed in the Decorated Gothic style. It is constructed from red-brown stone with bathstone dressings and features relieving arches made of blue-grey stone, stepped buttresses, and slate roofs. The church consists of an aisleless nave, a chancel, a southwest tower, a south porch, and a north vestry. The nave has three bays and is adorned with 2-light Decorated windows. The south gabled porch connects to the tower, which has a steep pyramidal roof, a parapet, and single-light belfry windows. An unusual round window with cusped tracery is located near ground level on the tower.
The chancel includes three single-light windows on the north and south sides, as well as a 2-light window on the east. The west side features a three-light window with quatrefoils in the head. The north vestry has a lean-to roof and a prominent chimney. Inside, the nave and chancel have arch-braced roofs. In the east wall, there is a medieval niche, possibly from the 14th century, with a cinquefoiled ogee head and flanking pinnacles. The unusual round window in the tower illuminates the old vestry, which houses an Early Christian inscribed pillar-stone bearing the inscription "TOTAVAL-/ FILIUS DOTHO/RANTI".
