Description

Pont Newydd is a single arched road bridge constructed from coursed rubble stone, featuring cut stone voussoirs that form the arch. The bridge has blank roundels in the spandrels on either side. There are lower flood channels on each side, also with matching voussoirs. The bridge heads are supported by raised piers, and there is a coped parapet wall on a projecting course. The underside of the arch was reinforced in the later 20th century with a concrete plinth and low revetment, which supports arched steel beams. Additionally, the sides of the bridge have later 20th-century reinforcing rods with circular steel ties.
