Description
Glandulais Farmhouse is a two-part farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. The original section faces northwest away from the yard and features whitewashed roughcast with a slate roof and roughcast end stacks on the left. It is two stories high with a three-window front, showcasing 12-pane sash windows with slightly cambered heads and stone sills, with larger windows on the ground floor. The entrance is arched and includes a recessed modern half-glazed door and an original radiating-bar fanlight. The eaves are supported by paired brackets, and the left end wall is also whitewashed.
The parallel rear range is longer, with a one plus four plus one window layout, facing the farmyard to the southeast. This section is made of unpainted rubble stone and has a slate roof, with one stack on the left end and another on the ridge. There is a cemented plinth and a low rubble wall in front. The openings have cambered heads with grey stone voussoirs and 12-pane sashes, six of which are on the upper floor. The ground floor includes a lean-to on the left, followed by a door that is not aligned, then a four-bay center with a blocked door, a sash window, a boarded door with a three-pane overlight, and another sash window on the far right. The windows flanking the main door are broader, and the left gable end has one attic window, while the right gable end is whitewashed with sash windows on each floor.
The rear elevation of this range, which is also whitewashed roughcast, is set back to the right of the original house and features three large close-set 12-pane sashes on each floor. A raised door on the ground floor left indicates that this part of the building was converted to a granary and stores after the family returned to Abermarlais. There is a single-storey outbuilding extending forward from the right end.
The early 19th-century part retains its late-Georgian character, including a central staircase, panelled shutters, and six-panel doors, while the later part remains similarly unaltered.
