Description
155 Charles Street is part of an early 19th century terrace, originally a row of eight houses. The terrace is roughcast with slate roofs, although No. 159 has concrete tiles. The chimney stacks are rendered, with brick detailing at No. 157. Each house is two storeys with a two-window facade. They feature 12-pane sash windows above and a 16-pane sash window below a doorway topped with a curved fanlight. A low roughcast front wall with spearhead iron railings runs along the front. Stucco door hoods are present at Nos. 155 to 159, and No. 161 has stucco surrounds to the door and windows. Nos. 155 and 161 have original four-panel doors, while the others have 20th century replacements. No. 157 has 20th century windows. The terrace forms a surviving section of Georgian townhouses and is relatively unaltered, with No. 157 included on the list primarily due to its group value.
