Description

Glyn-y-Mel Cottage is a house built from Preseli stone, featuring a slate eaves roof and red brick end stacks. It has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys high. The front range is covered with fishscale slates and includes three 2-light casement windows with eight panes each on the first floor, positioned above three ground floor windows and a door. The ground floor windows are similar in style, with the two outer windows aligned, while the inner window and door may have originally been a pair of doors. All windows and doors have red brick heads. The left end wall is windowless and has overhanging bargeboards.

The lower rear wing faces the lane and has only one ground level window, which is a casement featuring 20th-century brick voussoirs. Above this window is a 20th-century board with a painted Latin inscription: "Portentum plangens tua si caret asse crumena/Perge viam numinis resonat celer intus Amice/Si tamen esurie luges mazilla calebit/Ostia nam miseris Frater, sunt/semper aperta". External stone stairs on the gable end lead up to a ledged loft door, with a window to the left.
