Description

The Old Pump House is a terraced house dating from the 19th century, featuring colourwashed stucco, a slate roof, and stone end stacks, with the right stack shared. It is a two-storey, double-fronted building, with a lower two-storey, single bay to the left that has a roof continuous with that of No 47, although slightly lower at the ridge. The main house has two 12-pane sash windows above and later 19th-century canted bay windows with 2-4-2 panes on either side of a central doorway. The doorway features a 20th-century stable door and an original traceried overlight. The upper windows have eared stucco surrounds, while the door has a rusticated surround with a keystone. The narrow left section includes a 12-pane sash window above a 20th-century part-glazed door, with a separate walled pathway leading to it. The forecourt is enclosed by a low dwarf wall with 19th-century iron railings and gates that resemble those in front of No 41 High Street and Nos 11-13 Hamilton Street. The railings have uprights with scrolled and twisted finials, and the paired gates feature similar uprights and arched tops with decorative scrollwork. The end piers have pyramidal caps, and the side walls are topped with short railings. The roof is no longer cement grouted as noted in the previous listing. The interior was not inspected, but the previous listing indicates it was altered in the later 20th century.
