Description
The Old Building East of West Tarr is a two-storey structure, now an unroofed ruin, whose age is unknown. It may have had some connection to the nearby medieval house at some point. Due to its narrow dimensions, it likely did not serve as a residence but rather as a storage building associated with the medieval house. The south gable, which faces higher ground and may have had a door to the upper storey, appears to have been recently rebuilt.
The building is constructed into the same steep slope as the medieval house, but its long axis runs at right angles to the contours. The walls are made of rubble limestone and are approximately 0.5 meters thick. The upper floor was supported by about nine joists, and the roof was also made of timber. There is no evidence of any vaulting.
The floor area measures approximately 2.2 meters by 5 meters. There is an entrance doorway to the lower storey located at the north end of the west side wall, which features inside rebates. The upper storey contains a slit window in the north gable, with an internal rebate that suggests it may have had a shutter. This building is listed for its group value with the medieval house.
