Description
Bethel Congregational Chapel is a single-storey building constructed in 1858, featuring warm grey sandstone. The front elevation showcases snecked hammer-dressed ashlar masonry with a high plinth, accented by lighter coloured sandstone used for the window and door dressings, as well as the name-tablet above. The chapel has a slate roof and its front gable elevation includes two three-light windows with interlacing mullions and a simple hood-mould. The entrance features a four-centred doorway with a stopped chamfer and plain boarded double doors. Above the doorway, there is a prominent tablet with a trefoil design surrounding a ribbon that reads 'Bethel 1858', also beneath a hood-mould.
The side elevations are made of coursed rubble masonry and contain two windows on each side, similar to those at the front but without hood-moulds. The rear elevation is a plain wall that is slate-hung. The building is set within a space that includes gates flanked by railings on a low wall at the front, with a wall returning on the west side facing the lane.
