Description
This is a Grade II listed chimney, approximately 6 meters high, now standing alone beside the old Village Pound. The hearth is notably large, measuring about 2 meters deep and 2.5 meters wide, featuring a very shallow segmental arch. The height of this arch above the floor is not visible because the original floor has either been buried or destroyed. The rear of the chimney faces west, where the main block is vertical. The east face is slightly inclined, showing marks where it was attached to a now-lost building. The north and south sides are steeply inclined, following the shape of the flue. The top section likely consists of the remnants of a slightly tapering circular shaft that rises above a drip-course, which is slightly offset to the west side. This shaft has a diameter of about 1 meter and survives to a height of 1 meter. Unlike other large chimneys typical of local traditional domestic architecture, this one does not have any ovens or internal recesses, nor are there any remnants of iron bars or other artifacts embedded in the stonework.
