Description

This is a chapel, schoolroom, and house complex dating from the 18th century, constructed of local rubble stonework, rendered and dry-pebble-dashed to the front elevation. The chapel is nearly square and parallel to the street, with a slate roof. The front elevation features a central door flanked by windows, all with round heads, white-painted dressings, emphasised keystones, and stones above the impost level. The double doors are vertically boarded, with a fanlight featuring deep section glazing bars above. The windows contain small panes of glass with margin lights in amber, blue, or red. A large, oblong tablet above the door displays the name and dates within an oval. The gabled end walls and rear elevation are rendered and unpainted. Rear windows are similar to the front, but lacking the dressed stone surrounds.

Attached to the right of the chapel is a schoolroom, also parallel to the street, with a vertically boarded door and margin-light sash windows. To the right again is a one-storey house, slightly set back from the other buildings.

The complex is fronted by white-painted low stone piers, a central iron gate, and two lengths of iron railings on a low wall, with similar piers at the ends. Railings of a slightly different pattern front the schoolroom.

Inside the chapel, a small, framed and glazed porch provides entry, with chamfered framing, frosted glass, and coloured margin lights. A pulpit is located at the north gable end, set within an arched-headed wall recess, approached by twin stairs. A small table stands nearby. The chapel interior features two blocks of pews in the front half and three ramped blocks in the rear, with a contemporary American pedal-organ centrally located in the rear. Two more recent organs are positioned at the front of the room.

The schoolroom has a plain interior. The house is planned with a central entrance and lobby leading to two rooms, a small bedroom, and a scullery in a rear lean-to. The rooms are accessed by bead-jointed boarded doors and ledges, and are separated from the central lobby by a boarded partition.
