Description
The surrounding wall is made of brown tooled squared stone with grey limestone flush dressings and dates from the 18th century. It features a twin-gabled northern front with coped gables, grey stone quoins, and moulded corbels at the high shoulders on each side. There is one window above lean-to porches, and the side walls have loops. The roofs are covered with slate.
Inside, there are two brick-vaulted chambers with some remaining dividing walls and high, impressive arched vaults. The surrounding wall itself is constructed from grey limestone rubble and has a cambered arched northern doorway that is rebated for missing doors, with a datestone above. Within the enclosure, at the northeast and northwest corners, are two brick vaulted chambers that have stone-framed doors and windows, featuring quadripartite vaults.
This building is fireproof and was built into the excavated hillside, with an embanked path in front to protect against blasts. It served as the main magazine for the barracks. The structure is currently in poor condition.
