Description

This end-terrace house at 8 Goat Street is a notable example of 19th-century architecture, featuring painted lined stucco and a slate roof with red brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys high with a four-bay front, characterized by wood ogee modillions along the flat eaves. The upper floors have renewed narrow horned sash windows with eight panes, each set on stone sills. The ground floor includes a doorway in the left bay and a large tripartite sash window with four panes on each side of a central pane to the right.

The round-headed doorway is framed by an elegant Roman Doric timber doorcase, complete with entablature blocks and an open pediment. The blocks feature fluted friezes adorned with guttae, and there are mutules beneath the pediment. The entrance is fitted with a renewed six-panel door topped by a radiating-bar fanlight.

To the left, a roughcast wall from the 20th century is visible, along with a former garage structure that has only its front wall remaining. This garage features a steel lintel over a broad entry and a door to the left. Historical records indicate that in 1974, the garage had a cemented slate roof, a roughcast front, garage doors, and a narrow wooden boarded door to the left.

The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been altered during its conversion.
