Description
The entrance gates, piers, and railings at Clareston date back to the 19th century. There are three openwork piers remaining from the original four. Each pier features a lattice pattern on the plinth, intersected curves on four panels above, and a top square panel with a cross pattern made of a circle and four half-circles. The piers have open finials consisting of four upswept pieces that support a ball-urn finial. The two right piers frame a pedestrian gate, while the left pier and the inner right pier support the original double gates, which do not meet because the left inner pier has been removed. The gates include dog-bars and rails adorned with spearheads, as well as lozenge strengtheners on the dog-bars and curved strengtheners above, with a half-round design on the pedestrian gate. To the right, there is a long row of curving railings featuring dog-bars and spearheads. Additionally, there is a large stone outer right square pier that includes a plinth and cornice.
