Description
Rosemarket dovecote is a circular structure made of rubble stone, featuring remnants of roughcast and a domed roof. The low entry on the north side has a remnant of an arched head, and there are no other openings. The shallow-domed roof is divided into three sections by three projecting courses of flat stones. The walls are approximately 1 meter thick, with the doorway measuring 1.3 meters high and 80 centimeters wide.
Inside, the dovecote has a conical shape rather than a domed one, with some remnants of white plaster. The sides are made of squared stone and contain tiers of about 200 square dove holes. There is one shelf at about mid-height, and there are no openings at the top of the cone, which tapers into an apex roundel that may have been an infilled opening.
