Description
The Old Rectory is a large 19th-century house featuring a forward wing on the left and a porch at the angle. On the right side, there is a neat oriel window. The older vaulted rooms are accessed by internal stairs leading down from the main floor of the house. The vault is made of stone and is roughly segmental in shape, rounded at the springing line. It runs continuously from east to west, measuring about 11 meters in length and spanning approximately 4.5 meters. This space is divided by thin walls into two unequal rooms, with a short passage beside the smaller room.
The larger vaulted room on the west side served as a kitchen, complete with a large hearth and chimney at the west end, featuring a brick arch. Above the hearth, there is a circular wall recess of shallow depth, likely intended for the wheel of a dog-turnspit. The room contains three rows of ceiling hooks. There are faint traces of old paint on the dividing wall that separates the main room from the eastern room. Two windows overlook the garden, one of which is a Yorkshire type of sash window with hand-made glass. The smaller room to the east and the passage leading to the external wall have cobbled floors and do not have any external windows.
