Description
Caerau Independent Chapel is an 1826 building, originally an Independent chapel. It has a rendered front facade and a wide, grouted slate half-hipped roof. The front facade features two upper windows with 16 panes each, two doorways below with overlights, and 20th-century doors. A pedimented slate plaque commemorates William Jones (died 1833) and is located behind an iron railed enclosure. A central plain roundel displays the inscription 'Y Ty Hwn 1724, 1770, 1804 rebuilt 1826'. The sides of the chapel have two-storey sections with two windows on each side, featuring 12-pane sash windows. The rear and north side walls are constructed of rubble stone.
Inside, a three-sided gallery is supported by 3 x 4 iron columns with raised bases, and has a plain panelled front. A later pulpit is present with curving stairs on each side. The chapel retains box pews.
