Description
Manorowen is a two-storey house built with unpainted stucco and a slate roof featuring brick stacks. The roof has deep eaves supported by paired brackets and is hipped at the north end. The main façade has a five-window range, which was likely originally three windows and has been extended by two bays to the left in a matching style. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features tripartite sash windows with a configuration of 4-12-4 panes, each with cement cornices. There is a half-glazed door located in the fourth bay, set within a porch supported by two Roman Doric timber columns and topped with a 20th-century roof.
The north end wall includes a whitewashed stucco curved bay with similar windows on each floor, alongside a two-window range of 12-pane sashes to the right, where the lower windows also have matching cornices. A brick ridge stack is present. The rear wing is partially derelict and has two successive lean-tos on the south side. The south end of the main house features a three-window range, hipped at the southeast angle, with a combination of 12-pane, 8-pane, and 12-pane windows above, a central door, and 12-pane windows on each side, all with matching cement cornices. The door is set in a simple open-pediment doorcase, and there is a brick stack on the west side.
The building exhibits generally matching details, including plain mutule cornices, four-panel doors, and panelled shutters. Inside, a hall leads to a stair hall on the left, which features a stick baluster dog-leg staircase with a ramped rail and moulded tread ends. The front left room has been enlarged, and there is another room beyond it, identified as a former morning room, along with a narrow stair that may be part of a later addition. The front right room includes a north end bay, mid-19th century pelmets, and a reeded cornice. The rear wing contains a brick-arched cellar, a former kitchen, and the remains of a nursery above.
