Description
25 The Norton is a terraced house dating from the 17th century, featuring painted stucco and a slate close-eaved roof with a stack at the right end. The house has two storeys, with a gabled window bay on the right and a door on the left that is paired with the door of No 24. The gabled bay includes a tripartite sash window on the ground floor with a 2-4-2-pane configuration and a hoodmould, and a first-floor canted timber oriel window that has a moulded cornice and a rounded base. The sash windows have a top sash with a curved lower rail, which is also present on the ground floor window, along with a leaded coloured glass top light. The gable features exceptionally ornate bargeboards with fretwork infill, consisting of two thin collars and a rectangular panel between them that has pierced oval and spandrel designs, along with arched braces on each side. Above the gable is a thin post extending down from the finial, flanked by triangular panels that are pierced with a gothic motif. The door is set in a square-headed doorway with an overlight and is topped by a stucco shell hood in a 17th-century style, which may have been altered as it lacks brackets. The door is paired with the adjacent house.
