Description
24 The Norton is a terraced house dating from the 17th century, featuring painted stucco and a slate close-eaved roof, though it is missing the left end stack. The house has two storeys, with a gabled window bay to the left and a door to the right that is paired with the door of No 25. The gabled bay includes a tripartite sash window on the ground floor with a 2-4-2-pane configuration and a hoodmould, while the first floor has a canted timber oriel window with a moulded cornice and a rounded base. The sash windows have a top sash with a curved lower rail, which is also present on the ground floor window, and feature leaded coloured glass top lights. The gable boasts exceptionally ornate bargeboards with fretwork infill, including two thin collars with a rectangular panel in between, pierced ovals, pierced spandrels, and arched braces on each side. Above the gable is a thin post extending down from a finial, flanked by triangular panels that are pierced with a gothic motif. The door is set in a square-headed doorway with an overlight and is topped by a stucco shell hood in a 17th-century style, which may have been altered as it lacks brackets. The door is paired with the adjacent house.
