Description

Tynant is a house dating from the 18th century, originally with end-wall brick stacks and a slate roof with flat boarded eaves. The building is constructed of colourwashed rubble stone at ground floor and cob at first floor, with later extensions to both ends. The original section is two storeys high and has a five-window front, though the bays are irregularly spaced, and the window heads step down from west to east to follow the slope of the land. A near-central entrance door is flanked by 12-pane sash windows on each side, with a timber lintel above the door and a timber trellis porch. Casement pairs with timber lintels are positioned at each end of the ground floor, spaced apart to create a long facade. Above the inner sash windows are 9-pane casement windows set under the eaves. A lean-to is attached to the west end, and a later addition to the east end is characterised by a rendered wall and a single first-floor 9-pane casement window.
