Description

Cwmdu Cottage is a house built of rubble stone, likely dating from the 18th century. It has a slate roof with timber eaves, bargeboards, and decorative wooden pyramidal finials near the gable ends. A central chimney stack is built of stepped rubble. The front facade is long, extending over approximately six bays and a height of one and a half storeys. The windows feature round arched heads constructed with long stone voussoirs and are topped with cut stone drip-moulds with stops. The two penultimate openings are lower and narrower, indicating that originally there were matching doors leading to cottages. An original boarded door remains on the right-hand side, while the corresponding opening is now a six-pane horned sash window. Other windows are twenty-pane hornless sashes. Stone lintels with rubble infill are above the window arches. Four wide, gabled dormer windows have been added in the 20th century, featuring slated fronts and sides, timber barges, and pyramidal finials. Twenty-pane glazing is present in these dormers. The left end of the building has 20th-century glazing. The ground floor on the right-hand side has slightly canted corners, with the gable above being wider and featuring angle stops. A wide ground-floor window, with a segmental head, stone voussoirs, and a dripmould, has been inserted with 20th-century glazing. There is later 20th-century glazing to the first floor, mirroring the round arched head of the front facade. A 20th-century lean-to garage has been added to the rear of the property.
