Description
Einion Cottage is a house built from rubble stone, featuring a slate close-eaved roof and a red brick chimney at the right end. The building is two storeys high and has a double-fronted design, with the facade significantly offset to the left. Each floor has two 16-pane sash windows, although the upper floor windows have been replaced with uPVC. The doorway is situated between the windows, closer to the left window. A 19th-century cell door from Swansea Gaol has been inserted in the late 20th century, complete with its original lozenge tracery overlight. The openings have brick heads and slate sills, and the windows show straight joints below, indicating they were originally lower. The right corner features massive corner stones, and the left joint with the adjoining house suggests that this cottage was added to an existing building that was later demolished and rebuilt. The right end wall is windowless, while the rear has steps leading down to a basement and irregular window placements, which have also been renewed in uPVC.
Inside, the cottage has a small-scale layout with a narrow parlour to the left of the entrance passage, featuring opposed doorways and a partially surviving post and panel partition. The principal room on the right includes a timber narrow winding stair next to a large fireplace with a pine lintel, and the floor is slate flagged. Upstairs, there are two rooms separated by a post and panel partition.
