Description

This is an Automobile Association telephone call box, likely dating to the mid-20th century. It is constructed of painted sheet metal with painted plastic badges. The box has a square plan with tapered, black-painted sheet metal sides, and a flush metal door to the front, displaying a winged AA badge. A shelf cornice sits above the door, beneath a cross-gabled roof featuring AA badges in each of the three gables, flanked by plaques lettered 'Devil's' and 'Bridge'. The roof has a slight overhang, and a small ventilator is positioned at the crossing point. The call box is set on half-round paving, with plaques of cement on the rear, against a rubble retaining wall. These plaques are lettered 'Devil's' and 'Bridge', each with an arched plaque above bearing a later 20th-century AA badge.
