Description
Cliff Railway House is a two-storey building set into a slope. It features a four-window red brick front with painted dressings, a hipped slate roof, and brick chimney stacks on either side of a central cross gable that has a pediment. There is a datestone at the center, and pediments above the splayed one-window corners. A parapet with ball finials sits above the cornice and pilaster strips, which end just below the first-floor cornice. The windows are horned sash style with cills and keystones, and the ground floor has arched openings, with a broader central main entrance featuring panelled doors. The side elevations include both sash and casement windows, while the rear has sash windows with a central splayed bay.
The red brick walls rise along the stepped platforms of the lower station. Twin railway tracks are set into a cutting with concrete banks and diverge at a crossing point. Three out of four timber bridges are still intact. At the upper end, concrete walls lead to the stepped platforms, which connect to the upper station that has a corrugated roof and a boarded valence at the front.
