Description
Capel Cynnon is a chapel built in 1823, featuring painted stucco and a slate roof. The long facade has square-headed openings, including two central long 15-pane sash windows with a plaque between them that reads 'Capel Cynnon a adeiladwyd yn y flwyddyn 1823'. There are two outer long narrow 8-pane gallery lights and a single boarded door to the right, located under a gallery window. The rear is constructed of rubble stone and has three large 12-pane sash windows with brick cambered heads.
To the right is a lower vestry with a brick end stack. The upper floor has two large 4-pane sash windows, while the lower floor features a door and a small 4-pane casement window. The vestry has angle quoins, and the rubble end wall includes a small 4-pane window on the first floor to the right and another on the ground floor to the left, both surrounded by red brick. There is also a door with a brick head to the right. Evidence suggests that an older structure has been raised. The rear has a rubble basement, while the rest is red brick with two 4-pane sash windows on the first floor.
Inside, the chapel has a simple layout without galleries and is plastered, featuring a pulpit on the left end wall. There are painted grained box pews arranged in three blocks, some facing inward on each side of the pulpit. The interior includes large panels, a panelled dado, all painted a pale colour, and a matching 'set fawr' with curved angles. Two brass oil lamps are mounted on standards. The pulpit is grained a darker brown than the pews and seat, with a single set of steps leading up from the left and pierced flat balusters, a chamfered newel, and a ball finial with a spike. The pulpit has panelled sides with canted angles, and behind it is a large pilastered arch flanked by two oil lamps on brackets. A later timber lobby is located in the corner, featuring half-glazed doors and one half-glazed side. The ceiling is a 20th-century flat design.
