Description

Capel Moriah, built in 1829 and renovated in 1888, is a chapel featuring roughcast walls with unpainted stucco dressings and a slate roof that has a moulded eaves cornice. The front has two arched windows with radiating bars at the top, and a door to the left with six vertical panels, accompanied by a lean-to timber porch covered in fishscale slates, supported by square timber piers with capitals. The building has stucco quoin pilasters at the corners, moulded hoods over the windows with keystones, a moulded string-course at the impost level, a heavy moulded sill course, and a moulded plinth. A date plaque reads 'Moriah Adeiladwyd 1829 adgyweiriwyd 1888 Addoldy y Bedyddwyr'. The rear is roughcast and features two arched windows.

To the left of the chapel is a chapel house, constructed in the 20th century with dry-dash render and plain stucco surrounds on the openings. This two-storey building has two 9-pane sash windows on the first floor, two similar windows on the ground floor to the left and centre, and a door to the right. The rear is made of rubble stone.

Inside, the chapel has a simple late 19th-century interior with pitch pine pews arranged in a single block, featuring shaped bench ends. There is a broad low platform with arcaded rails between heavy turned newels topped with acorn finials, flanking steps at each end of the front. Each side of the pulpit has two arcaded bays with turned balusters and incised spandrel panels. The pulpit itself has two arched panels beneath three square panels and a moulded cornice for the bookrest. Behind the pulpit is a plaster arch with part-fluted pilasters and rosettes, along with a moulded keystone flanked by scrolls. The ceiling is plaster with moulded ribs that divide it into eight panels, featuring two central roses. There is also a panelled corner lobby with a half-glazed door.
