Description
Ynys Greigiog is a 17th-century house built from rubble stone with a slate roof. The gable-end stonework is raised and features a rough coping. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a large stone external chimney on the right side of the rear north elevation and a stone stack at the east end.
The south front has three windows, primarily timber cross-windows, which were originally designed with four small panes in each quarter, one of which opens. The first floor has three windows, offset to the left, positioned under the eaves. The centre window is smaller and shorter, with a single pane in each quarter. The ground floor windows feature 19th-century yellow brick cambered heads: a 16-pane sash window to the left, aligned with the left upper window; a fixed 16-pane centre window, which is set higher to light the stair; and a right-hand cross-window, aligned with the right window above. All windows have slate sills.
The east end of the house is windowless and has the main entry to the right, located in the end wall of a rear outshut. The rear north elevation is whitewashed and mostly consists of the outshut, which has two small windows—one in the centre and one to the right. The outshut stops before a massive chimney breast that rises from a lean-to roofed with corrugated iron. The main roof has slated shoulders at the eaves level, leading to a tall tapering square stack with a rough cornice. The lean-to, made of whitewashed rubble, was originally open-fronted with two bays but now features broad double doors to the left and a 20th-century five-light window to the right.
The west end has a tall gable that rises from steeply sloping ground, with a flat-topped gable. Three windows are arranged formally, one above the other: the main floors have cross-windows, while the attic features a triple casement, each with a massive timber lintel and a flat stone shelf or drip above. The main windows have slate sills, while the attic window lacks a sill.
The interior has only been partially inspected. The entrance leads into the outshut northeast room, while the main ground floor room at the east end has a large fireplace, two encased beams, and squared joists. The doors are painted with a grained finish.
