Description
The Universal Pentecostal Church was originally built as a school associated with Christ Church around 1840 to 1850. It includes a school wing and a master's house. The building is constructed from roughly coursed and squared Welshpool granite, featuring ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The master's house has yellow brick gable end stacks and a yellow terracotta axial stack with three shafts, which are decorated with vertical chevron and twist mouldings. There are iron vents on the roof of the school wing.
The structure is arranged in an L-plan, with the former school master's house located in the southern wing. The façade features three-light stone mullioned windows with heavy latticed panes that flank a chamfered segmentally arched doorway. Above, there are two-light mullioned dormer windows set in coped gables. The former school wing connects at a right angle and has a lean-to pentice along its inner face, which includes a two-bay arcade with four-centred arches and a higher arch in a gabled porch to the east. The windows in this section are also latticed.
On the gable end, there is a prominent main window set high, consisting of a tall three-light mullioned and transomed window above three single-light windows, all with heavy latticed panes. The northern elevation has two similar windows, although one has been renewed.
This building is recognized as a well-detailed mid-19th century school and is part of a group with Christ Church.
