Description
The Albert Hall is a two-storey building with a basement, featuring a five-window English Renaissance brick front and an Art Nouveau entrance. It has a hipped slate roof and an advanced central bay with a pediment, adorned with a dentilled cornice supported by pilasters with acanthus capitals. The first floor has stringcourse hoodmoulds above paired sash windows that are topped with semicircular fanlights. On the ground floor, there are paired sashes beneath stone lintels on the left and right, with a Venetian window arrangement at the centre entrance, which is accessed by steps. The doors have panels at their base and curved radiating glazing bars above, with a lean-to hood supported by brackets. Minor alterations were made by W Beddoe Rees, who rebuilt the basement to serve as a schoolroom for the adjoining Presbyterian Chapel.
Inside, the hall retains a raked auditorium and a gallery with a curved front. There is a rectangular proscenium arch and ornamental details in the boxes.
