Description

Erwood Hall is a house dating from the 18th century, constructed of grey coursed squared stone with slate roofs and stone end stacks. The right-hand stack forms an L-shape where the gable end returns. The main front of the house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window arrangement. Two flat-roofed dormers have been added, each containing a pair of four-pane casement windows. The formal front elevation is in a Georgian style, featuring a central pediment, painted timber modillion cornices along the eaves, and a moulded base. A lunette window is set within the pediment, surrounded by stone voussoirs. Ground-floor and first-floor windows are casement windows with stone voussoirs, the first floor windows having six-over-six panes and the ground floor windows having eight-over-eight panes. The central doorway is within an earlier 20th-century stone porch with a flat roof and a stepped cornice. The porch has a large arched doorway with stone voussoirs, a radiating-bar fanlight, and half-glazed double doors with side-lights. A two-storey flat-roofed stone addition has been constructed to the right, featuring a one-window range to the front and the side. A rear wing is also present, with a stack at one end. The house is not available for internal inspection but is believed to have a centre hall plan with principal rooms on each side and a staircase to the rear.
