Description

This is an early 19th century cast iron mile marker, triangular in plan with a sloping top, set against a half-round backplate. The marker has raised lettering. On the left side, it reads "BLUE BELL 3-M CHURCHSTOKE 4-M"; on the right, "KERRY 4-M NEWTOWN 7-M"; and around the backplate, "BISHOPS CASTLE 9-M”. The marker possesses group value from being a surviving feature of a historic transport route.
