Description
Broneirion is a mansion built in the Italianate style, constructed from ashlar limestone with slate roofs. It has two storeys, an attic, and cellars. The main east-facing front, which overlooks the valley, features five bays, with the central three bays projecting and reducing to one bay at the first floor level. While the façade is symmetrical, the main entrance is located in the right bay and consists of an arched opening supported by twisted stone columns. The ground floor is channel rusticated and has quoins, while the upper floor is finished in stucco. The windows are plate glass sash, arranged as singles and pairs. The windows in the centre and end bays of the upper floor are framed with an entablature and aprons. The attic windows interrupt the strong eaves, with a dentilled cornice rising above them in the form of a stilted round-headed arch, topped with a spike finial. The chimney stacks are symmetrically placed.
The north front, which overlooks the bowling green, has seven bays, with the eastern bay projecting, canted, and gabled. This bay features carved spandrels above the windows, including a notable depiction of Ceres, dated 1864. The windows here are four-paned sashes, accompanied by four round-headed raised dormers. The south side includes a canted three-storey bay. At the rear, there is an extension that is set back and features a large transomed window on the south side, which illuminates the billiard room and includes stained glass in the head lights.
The interior was mostly refitted around 1910. The main entrance leads into an inner hall with an open-well dog-leg oak staircase to the left. The drawing room on the south side includes a lateral marble fireplace and a dentilled cornice. The library on the north side has bookshelves flanking a central fireplace, with leather dust pelmets above the shelves. The dining room is located at the rear, in the centre of the north front. The added billiard room features an inglenook recess flanked by light oak Ionic columns, along with a free-style fireplace that has a beaten copper hood and an ornamental plasterwork chimney breast.
