Description
Canal Bridge No 5 on the Guilsfield Branch of the Montgomeryshire Canal was built between 1794 and 1797. It features a brick arch and abutments, with sandstone copings. The parabolic arch is made of 33-centimeter brick and is partially rendered under the soffit. The abutments are splayed at both ends and end in 45-centimeter brick piers. There is a stone string at water level and five housing slots for maintenance. The parapet rises at an angle along the abutments and flattens over the bridge, capped by a flush square stone coping. On the northeast side, there is an oval cast iron identification plate with the number 5.
