Description
The Church of St Dubricius is a church built of rubble stone, featuring a plain tiled roof that overhangs at the gables. It has a simple west tower topped with a pyramid slate roof, and the nave and chancel are covered by a single roof. There is a south porch. The tower has a battered base and two plain square louvred bell-lights located under the eaves on the north and south sides. On the south side, there is a loop and a 19th-century shouldered-arched window, while the west side is blank.
The south side of the nave includes a 19th-century porch with a plain tile roof and re-used medieval cusped trusses, similar to those found at Crickadarn. The front and back trusses feature a tie-beam and raking struts that are cusped to form a quatrefoil and two trefoils, while the middle truss has an arch-braced collar and one trefoil. Inside, there are seats on each side, and a pointed chamfered door, which is possibly medieval but has been much restored, with a 19th-century board door. The nave has two 19th-century lancet windows on the south side, and there is a narrow blocked pointed chamfered south door leading to the chancel, along with a much-restored two-light window in the Perpendicular style with a flat head. The east window is a 19th-century feature with triple lancets that are cusped. On the north side of the chancel, there are two small lancets set high, with the second one featuring a medieval red stone head and incised spandrels. The north side of the nave has three 19th-century lancets similar to those on the south.
The interior is plastered and features a 19th-century six-sided rafter roof, which is boarded behind. The window heads are segmental pointed. The chancel and sanctuary have a tiled floor. There is an octagonal red stone font, possibly medieval, set on a 20th-century base. The pulpit is made of pitch pine from the 19th century and rests on a stone base. Other interior features include a late 19th-century carved wood lectern, 19th-century stalls, and a reading desk. The altar rails are supported by four iron standards with leaf scrolls. A stained glass window on the north side depicts St Dubricius and was created in 1993 by Celtic Studios.
