Description

This is a former retort house, likely dating to the 18th century, with a continuous outshut to the left and a further outshut set back to the right. The building is constructed of brick, with slate roofs. The main range has a pyramidal roof, topped with a vent fitted with continuous louvres and a smaller pyramidal roof. The outshuts have catslide roofs; the outshut to the right has a more recent skylight inserted. The main range features a large round-headed doorway, flanked on either side by two tall, narrow, round-headed vents that have been bricked up. To the left, within the outshut, is a wide doorway set beneath a segmental arch. Four similar round-headed vents, now bricked up, are present to the rear of the main range. Inside the main range, the brick floors retain the shadows of brick retorts. The outshut to the right has a concrete floor.
