Description

The Nags Head Public House is a brick building with slate roofs, dating from the 18th century. It is a symmetrically planned building of two storeys, with a central three-window range and slightly recessed flanking gabled wings, one of which is now in separate occupation as Wayside. A central gabled bay projects forward, featuring a triple arched timber porch with a renewed inner doorway, retaining an overlight with marginal glazing and some coloured glass. The windows on the ground floor of the central range are small-paned iron casements with transoms and ‘gothick’ glazing bars in the upper lights, and have segmentally arched heads. Flanking windows on the ground floor of the gabled wings also have segmentally arched heads. The upper windows in the flanking wings have similar segmental arches constructed with alternating red and blue brick. Blue brick and stone kneelers adorn the dormer gables of the wings. The gables feature blue brick and stone corbels, and the chimney stacks have stone copings and blue brick bands. The windows generally are small-paned iron casements with transoms and ‘gothick’ glazing bars in the upper lights.
