Description

The Radnor Arms Public House is a building constructed from colourwashed stone with a graded stone slate roof. It has an 'L'-shaped plan, featuring a main range that dates from the 15th to 16th century, which runs east-west and is parallel to the road, complete with a gable stack. There is a later two-storey cross wing on the west side, which has been extended at both the north and south ends. The space between the two ranges has been filled with a lean-to roofed with stone slate.

The door to the earlier range has been converted into a window with splayed jambs, and it has been replaced by a new cross-boarded door with a low-set timber lintel. Above this, there is a raised paned dormer window. The building features various 19th and 20th-century windows, including three raised dormers facing south. A prominent external stone stack is located at the original north end of the cross wing, which has two offsets and a whitewashed stone flue.

Inside, the early range includes a three-bay single-storey hall, which now serves as the main bar. This hall has two arch-braced collar trusses that support two tiers of purlins, with curved struts connecting the collars to the rafters. Recent additions include arched braces and carved corbels. The rafters are trenched for the two tiers of purlins. The hall was later floored, necessitating the addition of the north-facing dormer. Beyond the gable wall, there is a two to three-bay wing with cross beams, likely a 17th to 18th-century rebuild of a medieval range. This wing has been extended in the 20th century to the south and to the north, where the kitchen is now located, set at a higher level. There are also various 20th-century extensions on the west side of the wing.
