Description

Cefn Farmhouse is a late 17th century or early 18th century two-unit house with one and a half storeys. It features a through-passage, kitchen, parlour, and service room. The structure is timber framed with brick nogging, mostly dating from the 20th century and painted white on the west side. It stands on a stone plinth and has random rubble gable walls, with the south gable now roughcast. One panel on the front of the house has lath and plaster infill. The slate roof has been renewed on the west side and includes gable stacks. The north stack is made of random rubble with brick quoins, and its upper section has been rebuilt in brick; the south stack is also random rubble, with its upper section rebuilt in brick.

The front of the house features two dormers with wooden casement windows, and the tie beams are supported by moulded brackets. The centrally placed door is flanked by two small casement windows. A brick porch with a wooden lintel and a slate roof leads to the entrance. The north wall is limewashed, while the east side has a raking dormer with a wood frame casement window. The east wall has been partly rebuilt in brick and sits on a stepped stone plinth, with a centrally placed door.

Inside, timber framed partitions are preserved, featuring brick nogging in the lower storey, while lath and plaster panels remain in the upper storey. The through-passage contains a straight stair with winders at the base. To the right of the through-passage are the service room and parlour. The kitchen has spine and cross beams with ogee stops. There is also a cellar with a well, now covered by a manhole.
