Description
Ty-Coch Talwrn is a 1½-storey building featuring a gabled cross-range on the left. The right bay has rubble walling that has been raised in modern brick. The early brickwork on the left is laid in English Bond on rubble sleeper walls. The building has slate roofs and a central square brick stack, with plain barge boards. Both the cross-gable and entrance bay display saw-toothed brickwork string courses at the first floor and chamber ceiling levels, with the lower one returning at the left side. The left-hand openings have brick heads, modern frames, and a boarded door, while the right-hand window features a timber lintel.
The rear is mostly rubble and includes a three-light timber casement window in the gable. There is a modern lean-to at the south end.
Although not inspected during the resurvey, it was reported in 1987 to have a well-preserved interior with feathered stop-chamfered beams and massive cross-timbers on the ground floor. The right-hand hall has counterchanging joists, and there is an arched chimney lintel. The interior also features plain boarded doors and a fine rear double flight timber staircase with finials on the newels and pierced balustraded handrails of 17th-century style. The main range retains an original cruck-truss with a collar, which has had added purlins for raised eaves, while the northern cross-range has an 18th-century box-frame truss.
