Description
The L-Plan range of outbuildings at Trewern includes a barn dating from the 16th or 17th century, which features three bays and is timber-framed with a weather-boarded front. The structure incorporates much re-used timber but retains significant elements of square-panel framing, jowled storey posts, pegged tie-beam trusses with raking braces, and trenched purlins. The common rafters have been renewed, and there are two tall, opposing double doors.
Adjoining the barn to the north-east is a cowhouse under a continuous roofline, which is likely from the 18th century and has rubble base walls with a weather-boarded upper section. At the rear of the barn and cowhouse range, flanking the barn entry bay, are two wide lean-to cowhouse blocks from the 19th century, constructed of red brick and featuring good quality boarded doors along with part-glazed, part-louvred windows.
The north-west range, also from the 19th century, includes a stable, loose boxes, a traphouse, a cartshed/granary, and pigsties. This range is two storeys high and is built of red and blue brick laid in a diaper pattern, topped with a slate roof. The stables have a weather-boarded front elevation.
