Description
Bwlch Mawr is a 1½-storey house built from whitened rubble stone, topped with a slate roof and featuring a reduced stone stack on the left. The central doorway contains an early 20th-century panelled door with a round glazed panel, set in an earlier opening. The windows, which mostly lack glazing, include a 2-light window on the right and a 3-light window on the left, both under wooden lintels. The right-hand window has a date-inscribed jamb. There are two raked dormers, each with 2-light windows. At the rear, there are two more raked dormers, with the right-hand one retaining a horizontal-sliding sash window. A 20th-century window on the lower left has been enlarged from an earlier opening, while a window on the right is without glazing. On the left side, the roof slope of a former short rear wing, which housed a back-kitchen, is visible, and this area features an exposed bread oven.
Inside, parts of two cruck trusses can be seen; one is mostly concealed within the house, while the other is embedded in the gable end, dating from when the fireplace was constructed. The sub-medieval hall, located on the right side of the entrance, includes a large fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and a moulded timber lintel.
