Description
9 High Street is a group of three-storey buildings with one-window fronts, where all but Shoepermarket are reflected pairs. The vertical division between Nos 8 and 9 indicates that the right-hand two are likely later additions. The buildings feature a slate roof and wide boarded eaves, with red brick chimney stacks. The upper parts are slate hung, while some areas are modern and cement rendered. Nos 5 and 6 have cement rendered fronts, while Nos 7 to 10 are constructed of red brick. The small pane sash windows on Nos 5 to 9 have a 9-pane design on the second floor and a 12-pane design below, with nearly flush frames. No 10 has modern windows. There are cambered cellar openings for Nos 7 to 10. Shoepermarket has a modern shop front with a three-light window and a broadly projecting boarded and ramped fascia. The other buildings feature paired doorcases, except for No 10, with fluted pilasters and bracket cornices. No 6 has a modern door, while Nos 7 and 8 have six-panel doors, No 9 has a four-panel door, and No 10 has a half-glazed door.
The side elevation facing Cemetery Lane is long and cement rendered, with wide eaves and sash windows, mostly in 9 and 12-pane designs, featuring seven windows on the first floor. The shop front extends along just over half the length of the building and includes modern doors, one of which is under a bracketed hood. The rear features a brick gable end of a cross range and a brick main rear elevation with mostly modern windows and cambered voussoirs overlooking a rear yard. This yard is closed on the east side by a low, two-storey slate-roofed range of likely industrial origin, now part of the Cambrian works. There are two multipane metal frame casement windows retained, along with cambered voussoirs on the ground floor. At the southern end, there is a similar range that is partly weatherboarded and adjoins the rear of the shallower No 13.
