Description
The monument to the Owen family in Machynlleth Cemetery is a tall octagonal memorial cross designed in the Decorated Gothic style, featuring a lower reredos behind it. The cross is adorned with carved foliage on the crucifix, the capital of the stem, and the cornice of the pedestal, which has a crenellated top. The pedestal has ogee panelled sides that include inscriptions and is set on a stepped platform. The reredos features square end pavilion piers with hollow Gothic detailing. In the center, there are three polished slate tablets connected by paired ogee arches, with moulded coping that steps up and down over these tablets. The dates inscribed on the cross range from 1844, marking the birth of Elizabeth Owen, to 1967, the year of Margaret Owen's death. The dates on the reredos span from 1847, the birth of Owen Owen, to 1976, the death of Lloyd Owen Owen.
