Description

Ty Uchaf is a two-storey, L-shaped house, dating from the 18th century. The main range is constructed of roughly coursed, random stone with a slate roof, featuring blue brick stacks rising to the ridge and right-hand gable. The advanced wing to the left has a slightly higher ridge line and is built of rubble stone under a slate roof with a yellow brick end stack. An open, lean-to porch supported by timber posts is situated in the angle of the ranges, leaning against the wing. The porch’s entrance leads into the main range, featuring a half-glazed panelled door. A former doorway in the porch, leading into the wing, has been blocked but retains an overlight. The windows throughout are small-pane casements with iron glazing. To the main range, there is a three-light window with a long timber lintel to the right of the entrance, a similar window above rising to the eaves, and a two-light window above the entrance. The wing has matching three-light iron windows to each storey to the left of the porch. A former small window above the porch has been infilled with stone. The rear of the wing borders the churchyard and is roughcast on the far left, with a 20th-century top-hung window on the upper storey. There are no other openings on this rear section, save for a small, blocked opening near ground level. To the left is a lower range, mainly roughcast and with wooden casements on the left and late 20th-century windows on the right.

Adjoining the gable end of the wing is a lower cart-shed range, featuring full-width boarded doors to the front. The gable end has external stone steps leading to a planked loft door. The rear of the cart-shed has no openings and a corrugated asbestos roof. The interior of the house was inaccessible at the time of inspection.
