Description
Cefn du Uchaf Farmhouse is a timber-framed building with whitewashed panels and a slate roof, dating from the 17th century. It stands two storeys high and has three or more bays, featuring a stack between the first and second bays, with an additional brick bay added beyond an end stack in the mid-18th century.
The framing consists of two large and two small panels high, supported by heavy wall bressumers. The upper angles include small corner braces, which have been reduced to reinforcement pieces on the front elevation. The gable displays decorative angled bracing in all panels, with queen struts and a collar that supports a roof featuring a double tier of purlins. There is a 17th-century boarded door located in an open timber gabled porch between the second and third bays, and the windows are timber and metal framed, dating from the 20th century.
The brick bay at the west end features corner brick pilasters with lined brick joints. This bay is wider and extends slightly at the back, containing a gable stack and a cellar, although the gable windows have been blocked. In line with the addition, the rear of the third bay was refaced in brick, complete with a stone plinth and platband.
Overall, the farmhouse is timber-framed and brick-nogged, with whitewashed surfaces. It has two storeys and two windows on the front. One gabled end is heavily ornamented with criss-cross timbering, while the other gabled end has a red brick early 19th-century extension with irregular fenestration; this brick gable end features a blank oriel with a brick relieved surround.
Inside, there are deep chamfered beams in the centre bay, although a recent fireplace has been installed. The staircase, located in the third bay beyond the entrance passage, contains an 18th-century stair with fluted balusters.
