Description

Abernaint is a two-storey plus attic building constructed of rendered brick, featuring string courses, with the rear made of red brick and corrugated cladding on the upper floor. The brick and rendered brick chimneys add to its character. The entrance front faces the main road to the southeast.

A two-storey gabled porch is prominent, with a first-floor camber-headed window that has casement glazing. The porch includes a square-headed doorway with low wooden gates and small camber-headed windows on either side. To the left of the porch, there is a three-light casement window set at the eaves. To the right, the wall rises into a gabled dormer, which has a round datestone marked 'DHP 1700' at the apex and a camber-headed window in the attic. The first floor features a camber-headed window with three-light casement glazing, while the ground floor has a camber-headed window with three-light small pane casement glazing. The right gable end has no openings, while the left gable end is slate hung and includes a shallow verandah with a slate roof and a double-leaf door that is part glazed, framed by panelled jambs.

The rear of the building has an upper floor with corrugated cladding and a roof that sweeps down to the left. To the right, the wall rises as a gable with a large chimney, a small attic window, a square horizontal sash to the right, and an ogee Gothick window at a lower level, alongside one square and one rectangular window. The ground floor, made of pressed red brick, features a camber-headed door, two camber-headed windows, and a tall window to the right of the door.

Inside, the ground floor room to the right of the porch has stop-chamfered beams and cross beams, along with an exposed timber-framed partition that includes a Tudor-arched door head. The room behind the porch also has two stop-chamfered beams and a low dado of oak panelling. The corridor at the rear of the house shows exposed framing on the rear wall. The staircase has been restored and features fretted splat balusters, while the first floor displays exposed timber framing and another Tudor-arched doorhead.
