Description
Caersws Bridge is a Grade II listed structure built of local stone. It features three unequal elliptical arches, with one ring of V-jointed voussoirs that are set slightly forward, and a central keystone. The arches are supported by two water piers that have pointed cutwaters on the upstream side. A square string course follows the cambered carriageway, and the bridge has three-course parapets with projecting through stones that are rock-faced on each side, topped with flush copings. These copings may date from a later period when the breakwaters on the upstream side were added, possibly around 1843. The outer ends of the bridge are splayed to terminal piers. To enhance the bridge's strength, fourteen tie bars with ribbed iron terminal plates were added later, along with penstrowed stone breakwaters placed in the river bed.
